Founded in 1988, the International Institute of Image and Sound (3iS) was created to support the growth of careers in cinema, audiovisual and sound, with one founding ambition: to train professionals who are immediately operational.

Located in Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines since its creation, the historic campus has gradually expanded to offer nearly 17,000 m² of teaching space, complemented by a student residence.

Over the years, 3iS has undergone structured and controlled development. The school now welcomes around 2,500 students across five campuses in France — Paris (Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines), Bordeaux, Lyon, Nantes and Avignon — and has broadened its field of expertise to include creative professions: live performance and events, 2D/3D animation and video games, acting, audiovisual and digital communication.

Recognised as a centre of excellence, 3iS is currently the only school in France in its fields to offer both a degree accredited by the Ministry of Higher Education and RNCP-certified qualifications.
